TODAY WAS AMAZING!!!
I think I should start this off by saying, I have seen Cardinal Camp evolve over the past three years. It used to be a two day event that seemed to be a second orientation. That is not what Cardinal Camp should be! It should be a time for freshmen to meet each other and play games and get pumped up for their first year at UIW. Well, the administration really brought the students on board this year for planning!! First off, it started at ten, instead of eight in the morning! I remember the first time I was a leader, and I was trying to pump everyone up. However, at eight in the morning, people don't want to hear you getting loud and rowdy!! I think that automatically helped. This year, it was just a day of FUN! We got to play ice breakers with our group, split up into guys and girls and have questions sessions about real life on campus, obstacle course, slip and slide, and we ended with a dance off!! It was amazing!! I had an awesome group that totally participated in everything. Even from the beginning, they were open and welcoming to everyone in the group. One of the girls in my group even won Miss Cardinal Camp! Then after everything was said and done, we all got to go to the SGA luau. They had amazing decorations, and everyone got to dress up! It was fun, because a ton of students went. They had greeks running the BBQ and the international students came and the freshmen and I even saw a bunch of upperclassmen as well! It's like the official kick off to the year!! This next week will have a ton of events, and I can't wait to be a part of it!!

Hey everyone!! Just three more orientations to go, and then school will be starting! It's hard to believe!!
I just got back into San Antonio this past Wednesday, and I moved into my first off campus house! I have been living on campus for the past three years, so this is a huge change for me. My roommate and I are both seniors this year, and we knew that if we were going to move off campus, we would make sure we were still very close by. Living off campus is a great opportunity, however, sometimes it's easy to fall into a commuter slum. If you live on campus you are always around the action, so if you live off campus you have to make an effort to come back up to the school for events and games and all of the other fun activities besides your classes. I am excited, though, because my roommate, Katie, and I are still involved on campus, and UIW even has a commuter social to help all of the off campus students meet each other. It's a great way to network and find people in your similar situation who want to stay involved.
I have been running back and forth around campus the past couple of days getting everything straightened out for this upcoming year. I was filling out all of my final forms for my loans, but there is a new process being used that I didn't completely understand. I came up to the financial aid office this morning, and they helped me out with everything! Sometimes I feel so bogged down with all of the FAFSA paperwork, but they made it so simple. They handed me one form, and after this, I will be able to afford my final year!!
I am off to an officers meeting for the new student organization on campus.....THE RED C! It's going to be amazing!! This group solely exists to promote school spirit for all of our athletic teams. We are getting shirts made to give away to people interested in coming to the home games and getting rowdy! It should be a fun opportunity for people to get involved and meet new people. Without too much of a time requirement, we hope to get tons of students involved!
Good luck with prepping for the start of school...whether it be college or high school :)
