Random fun fact of the week is that I just bought a violin. I am going to learn how to play fiddle style! I took it on campus on Tuesday, and this awesome music major on campus tuned it for me. I was walking off of campus, and I ran into my friend Hannah. She invited me up to her room to play the two notes that I learned with my free mini lesson after the tuning. I was up in her dorm room, and I was immediately transported back to last year. I miss living on campus so much sometimes. I would definitely suggest it to all new students. Just walking through the halls I saw all of these flyers for events for January Jump Off! Since this is the first week back, there are tons of events going on all week! That's another thing that is not fun about living off campus. When you get home from a full day of classes, it's hard to find the motivation to go back up to campus just for an hour or two. However, when you live on campus, you can be studying for a test and take a break by stopping by one of the floor events. That's another thing too! Yes, there are campus wide events, like the INCREDIBLE basketball game on Wednesday. Seriously, if you don't follow UIW basketball, YOU SHOULD! Our men's team is just fantastic! They have only lost one game this season, and they slaughtered the only undefeated team in the conference by 18 points!! We should be undefeated, but we lost our first game back after the break. I was talking to our number one heckler, and he said that it's unfortunate but makes sense. It was our first game after Christmas and they had to rock a road trip just to get there. They did rally this week, though, and they got the win that we have all been hoping for!! Bringing this all full circle, that was a campus wide event. Every student gets into games free, which is one of the MANY perks of going to a small school. I have friends at state schools that have to wait in lines for hours just to get a number to put in a lottery for tickets, which then cost tons of money. On top of those, there are actual floor events. Every Resident Assistant puts on events for there hall every month. That just means that you literally have to walk out of your room and down the hall. A walk down the hall for free food and people and games! I walk down the hall and all I get is an empty living room that is freezing. Yes, just to let you know, we don't have heat. It's very cold! That also makes me miss on campus living, where you don't pay extra for utilities. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for my off campus experience, but going to hang out with my friend on campus made me a little homesick. Don't knock it till you try it!! At least look into on campus housing wherever you are headed for college :)
Stay warm!!
Reading your post made me remember my own dorm life, too! Years after being a freshman, I returned to my dorm room and saw the table top I placed when I stayed there. I thought: "wow it's still being used!" Our dorm experiences will definitely stay with us for a long time :D
