Today was a LONG day! I had class, then I posted flyers all around campus. From there I watched an intense documentary about the death penalty. There is a new group we are starting up on campus- Humane Humans: Students Against Government Execution. I am super excited, because we are the second anti-death penalty college group in the entire state. The death penalty is an issue that I think needs to be addressed more. I am currently taking sociology of the death penalty, and it is amazing how ignorant I was. This is truly a system I knew nothing about! I have always been against it, because Catholicism is all about respecting life.
However, I have learned so much. The process, the rules. Even if I believed in killing other humans, our system is inefficient. I just hope to make a lot of changes. We are going to be holding prayer vigils on the days of executions, and every monday we are going to have a table set up for an hour just to spread information. I think the more people know, the more we can openly talk about it. We are actually having a theology on tap open forum this Thursday where we will look at both sides of the issue. Oh, and, we are going to be writing letters and actually meeting with state reps.
I am excited, because I actually feel like I am making a difference. I want to do a lot with my life, but that's in the future. This is something I can actually do now. If you would like to get involved just let me know!
Have a great day guys!
