Field Work: FDI in Technology in the EU

Twenty-four Undergraduate, MBA and Doctoral students and UIW Faculty and Staff studied in the European Union in Fall 2007. The study of Foreign Direct Investment in the Technology Sector was the goal.

In Dublin, we visited with start-up technology firms, the Bank of Ireland, and the Ireland Development Authority, Parliament, and took endless photos of Dell, Intel, Microsoft and Google buildings and employees.

After traveling by container ferry from Ireland to England, we spent time with Rackspace Managed Hosting in London, visited the U.S. Embassy and very much enjoyed a seminar presented by the U.S. Commercial Service.

We stayed on the move for the ten days, walking as much as five to ten miles each day.

Upon return to San Atonio, each student team presented an outstanding analysis of the chosen study field of "The Seven Revolutions" to great applause by audience members!

April in San Antonio

April in

San Antonio

is almost as great as April in

Paris

.  At least, the student group that has just returned from

Paris

says so!

The Wells Fargo International Peace Program, a collaborative program developed by UIW and Wells Fargo Bank, has just returned from field research and study in

Paris

and

Geneva

.  The two faculty sponsors of the work were Dr. Jeannie Scott and Dr. Pat LeMay Burr.

We adopted a study program based upon a body of knowledge, The Seven Revolutions, developed by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in

Washington

,

D.C.

Each student video recorded interviews with key figures in the EU and will report on their findings to a community audience in

San Antonio

before May 2007 graduation.

We studied in

Paris

at OECD,

Schiller

International

University

, and the American Chamber of Commerce.  In

Geneva

, we conducted research and attended seminars at the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Trade Organization.

In all cases, we had excellent discussions and superb hosts, and we are grateful to each one who made the program an amazing experience.

You, too, as a Business Major, can be a part of this program at UIW!

Welcome!

Welcome to this Blog Site created in San Antonio, TX.

Today the temperature on March 7, 2007 is a warm 70+ degrees, we have full sun, and a gentle breeze carries across campus.

From my office window in the Gorman Building I can see bicycles, blooming red bud trees and students carrying backpacks.

Spring Break begins at 5 p.m. tomorrow, and UIW students and faculty members leave on various programs in Africa, Latin America and Europe.
